Redemption Song

Intended to amplify themes of value and equity, I engaged kids and young adults who use the basketball courts frequently, with tiles cast from their basketball shoes and floating basketballs in a celestial motif. The Big Bonus and Top Value stamps are reminders of the Henke and Pillot and Weingarten stores that served the 3rd Ward community in its distant past. As the pavilion was designed for community gatherings and as an outdoor classroom, I chose aphorisms from Booker T. Washington, Corrie ten Boom and others, and embedded them as centerpieces for peer and inter generational conversation.
